"But I am just ONE person..."

Have you ever gotten that feeling in your chest that lets you know you’re onto something great? It’s a feeling that is hard to put a name on. It’s an ache that you feel so deeply. Like a burning in your heart. A feeling of compassion that moves you towards what you truly want in this life.

Let me tell you a little something about this feeling. Let’s call it “actssion” (action and compassion). If you’re like me, this feeling came out of nowhere, or so I thought. I was far away from home and I was around people I have never met before. I was in a small community in an unfamiliar place and my heart started to “ache”. I had no idea what this feeling was but I was so happy at the time that I didn’t look too much into it.

The second time this happened, I was going to school at the university of Windsor, in Ontario. I remember walking down campus and everyone was looking at their phones. My heart started to “ache” again. It was a feeling that I couldn’t explain. I started thinking so deeply about where we would be without technology and what the world would look like. Technology is amazing. It is something that I often take for granted since it is something that is so easily accessible in Ontario. But how much is too much?

I remember thinking to myself, I wish I could do something more to create a world where everyone was connected. Not in terms of technology but in terms of understanding. In terms of knowledge and education. And my heart physically ached because all I could think about was how small I am. I am one person in a huge world full of people who are comfortable right where they are, with no desire to change or better themselves or the world around them. But this was it. This is the debate that we have with ourselves. Why use a plastic straw? I am just one person so it won’t make a difference. Why not keep my tap running? Everyone else leaves their water on when brushing their teeth so what difference would it make if I turned mine of for 10.3 seconds? Why would I try to better the world if I am only ONE person and no one else is going to help me. Guys, its these conversations that change the world. It’s the people who look at these questions and say “I am one person and THAT IS WHY I need to create change”, not “I am one person so THAT IS WHY the world will not change”.

Once upon a time, the car was a thought in someone’s head. Social media (Facebook, Instagram, etc) was a thought in someone’s head. Electricity was a thought in someone’s head. Education was a thought in someone’s head. These are HUGE parts of today’s society and they all started with ONE person.

A shape shifter. A game changer.

There are people around the world that need your ideas. There are people around the world that are WAITING for the idea in your head to come to life and spread. You never know whose life you could impact just by speaking to people about your passions and what you truly want in this life.

Dream it. Believe it. Do it.
